Prof. Presly ‘Ruke Obukoadata stands as a distinguished scholar in the field of communication, with a career spanning over two decades marked by academic excellence, strategic leadership, and a deep commitment to advancing knowledge in media, branding, and public relations. As Professor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and faculty member of the Department of Mass Communication at Southern Delta University, Ozoro, he has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership in curriculum development and postgraduate research supervision, shaping the next generation of communication professionals. His scholarly interests are both expansive and forward-looking, encompassing brand and strategic communication, media ecology, artificial intelligence in communication, human ecology, digital media, crisis communication, academic publishing, research ethics, metacommunication, and development communication. These areas reflect a commitment to interrogating the evolving intersections between media, technology, and society, and to offering practical solutions to complex communication challenges. Prof. Obukoadata’s academic journey is rooted in a solid foundation of scholarship. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Mass Communication from the University of Uyo in 2016 and 2010, respectively, following a B.A. in Mass Communication from Delta State University in 2003. His professional affiliations further underscore his global engagement and recognition. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management (fcism), as well as member of the International Communication Association (ICA), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Public Relations Institute of Southern Africa (PRISA), the African Council for Communication Educators (ACCE), and the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR). In his teaching and facilitation, Prof. Obukoadata adopts a problem-solving pedagogy that is both rigorous and transformative. His approach integrates experiential learning, collaborative inquiry, scenario-based simulations, and critical thinking. This ensures that learners not only understand theoretical frameworks but are also equipped to apply them in real-world contexts, particularly in governance, development, and crisis communication. His scholarly output is prolific and impactful. He has authored over 50 peer-reviewed journal articles published in reputable outlets such as Humanities & Social Sciences Communications (Springer Nature), Newspaper Research Journal (SAGE), World of Media (Russian Media Studies), and Communication Today (Slovakia). He has contributed six chapters to international volumes published by Palgrave Macmillan, Routledge, and Cambridge Scholars, and co-edited two books, including the widely referenced Communication and Metacommunication: A Discourse on Media and Society (Jos University Press, 2021). He is also the author of a book on public relations published in Germany. His research is indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science, and is frequently cited in global studies on media innovation, political communication, and development. Prof. Obukoadata is a regular presenter and session chair at major international conferences, including the International Communication Association (ICA), the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), the African Council for Communication Educators (ACCE), and other digital communication forums. His recent engagements include the British Council Workshop on Curriculum Development (2024), the Elsevier Author Workshop on Academic Publishing (2020), the USAID/AUN Peace Journalism Training (2016), and the PRISA/ProVox Public Relations Certification in South Africa (2017). He has also played key roles in ICA’s Calabar Regional Hub (2024, 2025), the AMCRON International Conference on Digital Media and Governance (2022), and numerous ACCE national conferences since 2008. His facilitation style is interactive, evidence-driven, and grounded in real-world relevance.
